i have to do a society thing for tmw
not that i have a beef with mozart or beethoven
but dammit, they could’ve used some beats and scratches
ya know?
😐

second spiel of the day
the concept of an intellectual rapper seems to be extinct
a rapper who focuses more on getting a message across than on girls dancing scantily in the back, and talking positively about pot, coke, and whatnot, and talking about money and cars
so here rolls around my friend, josh, who knows that i’m against all that crap named above
and (this is in society class, a couple of days ago or so) tells me to listen to this song
so i listen to it
and here comes on nas
with a song, that finally has that message coming from a mainstream well-known rapper (divine styler and mos def are mainstream, but don’t seem to be that well-known, or well-appreciated anyway — even though the hip hop community will know all about the two)
so listen to nas’s what goes around (always called “poison” but it’s actually “what goes around”)
go out and get your hands on it
also on the same album something about world peace
good songs
really
got me rolling back
on the hip hop track

shoutz out to mos def, divine styler, and nas
for reintroducing meaningful hip hop
i am now officially a mos def fanatic
props to the brothers m.d. and d.s. and to the cousin nas
(speakin in spiritual terms here)

thought of the day
it’s not called “jihad” when a couple of individuals strap bombs to themselves and blow themselves in cafes and pizzerias, killing innocents and those who are not fighting — regardless of how much your own innocents are being killed
it’s called “jihad” when the collective community chooses a reasonable leader (or, perhaps there is a lack of one), but there is armed resistance to oppression — armed resistance against the oppressors, not innocents
that’s jihad
don’t stoop so low as to be at the level of the israelis
killing innocents
now, that’s real low

recommended music type thing of the day:
what goes around (poison) by nas
(…another one of those rare rappers with REAL hip hop — a REAL message — in mind … moderate swearing and stuff…)
and this great song:
a change is going to come by sam cook
(if you’ve seen the amazing epic malcolm x movie, this song will make you wanna cry… at least it makes me wanna cry — they play this just before and sort of while malcolm is assassinated…)
it’s an oldie, sort of, a protest song
gotta love them

um… i have a physics lab due tomorrow (more like later today…)
and as is custom, i am procrastinating to the extent that i’m losing sense of my surroundings…
okay, not that far
but i hate physics and i hate working on it
(the only “phun” part is where you get to play with metallic things that could potentially hurt the kids in grade nine…)
a quotable quote:
“Physics is 10% math, 10% science, and 80% confusion.”
— sanjeyan kalatharan (a very wise person, i assure you… and also my lab partner, in most cases…)

so, something i forgot to blog yesterday (this happened on monday, feb. 11)
is that i got a big bump on my head
this is how it happened:
i walk at blazingly fast speeds that have left many corvettes unsettled (hyperbole.. but i walk fast)
i walk fast in school too
and i also think a lot
so while my mind was elsewhere
and i was walking nearly at my fullspeed (which is quite fast considering my normal speed literally leaves people in my dust)
i opened a door and walked right into the blunt end
that was very intelligent, yes, i know
many people asked me how i’d gotten that big bump on my forehead
and ended up rolling on the ground laughing their rear-ends off
(thank God, the bump is now smaller — still there but smaller)
here’s the second part, today (tuesday, feb. 12):
i smacked my head into the bottom of a cabinet door
as i arose
so now i have a bump on the top of the head, too (not visible, i can only feel it)
incidentally, i was thinking about the same topic in both head-hitting cases
😐
yeah, very intelligent, i know
so now i have two bumps on my head
yaay
that, coupled with many lacked hours of sleep, is making me dazed and odd feeling and discoordinated
(not to mention some senior patient was yelling at me in the hospital today, and i was walking in circles — because that’s the way the hospital is made)
life rocks

oh, btw
here’s an amazing article on the contributions of muslims to everyone
(it specifies arabs, but really, muslims spanned everywhere from spain, eastern europe, middle east, central asia, india, to even china … so …)
