Archive for High School

after school, i went to jeff (hainsworth)’s place to work on a physics project with ella (my partner)

in the meanwhile, i felt tired and decided to take a nap on his couch in his basement

then … this is what happened (avi video, 1.6 mb)

enjoy

so i went to timothy eaton business and technical institute (basically … school for those who can’t make it to collegiate level) for that leadership conference thing
it was a dud
turns out the real conference was yesterday (as there was a principal’s meeting at t.eaton today …) — they rescheduled at the last moment or something, AND no one showed up yesterday either (except the five leader ambassadors from t.eaton … duh)

so there we were sitting in that school … i know this sounds conceited and … mean (and it is), but you could actually feel the not-so-bright-ness radiating from the school
and we were talking to a healthcare teacher, she had a pipe-cleaner flower pinned to her jacket (the type kindergarten students make and feel proud about)
ella, from our group, says “oh, that’s a pretty flower!”
and the teacher said “yeah, one of my students made it for me just this morning”
i burst out laughing, tried to restrain myself but i couldn’t
and i started trying to pretend i was choking
but i was doing a crappy job
ella tried to cover up “are you okay?”
didn’t work, that teacher gave me dirty looks
i can often restrain my laughter but the past few days i feel … giddy
(monday in bio class, i couldn’t read a simple paragraph and had to turn it over to annie, my partner, because i just kept laughing throughout)

then we helped her out with … math … compound interest, mind you (grade eleven math)

as soon as we heard that our cab was there, we all stood up and were like “let’s get the heck out of here!”

what a great way to waste the really late start
i could’ve slept in or done homework instead of buggering around a b.t.i.

trying to further my policy of trying to post at least once a day

so today was the first day back to school

felt good to settle into the old routine
my shoulder muscles are killing me for whatever the reason

math teacher dumps a ton of work on us back on the first day
reminds me of the first math class, no introduction, no hello’s or hi’s — just a straight dive into the lesson
and i still don’t know how to pronounce her name correctly, ms. kaschuk … i’ve settled with a “kaash-chuk” but sometimes it comes out “ka-shuck”
she’s ukrainian … apparently, and ukrainian chrismas is tomorrow (so she’s not coming to school)
so a merry ukrainian christmas to all ukrainian christians

maybe i should make up a pakistani christmas and take a day off school as well
(credit to omid for that joke)

for some reason i’m having a hard time articulating when speaking in person
i feel like taking pauses and breaks — no it’s not stuttering, because i can flow without stuttering when i concentrate
i just can’t speak properly without thinking about it
maybe i need more sleep

swollen members ft. moka only – bring it home

relatively old song but nice, just popped on my winamp

the giant english project is on friday
we’re having a nineteen-twenties party (in school) based on fitzgerald’s the great gatsby (nice book)
so we’re supposed to take responsibilites
not surprisingly, or maybe surprisingly, i was chosen for entertainment
i’ve basically arranged for five hours of music though we only need around three
i’m going as bing crosby, and a.mac is going as al jolson
we’ll sing (lip-sync) to “alexander’s ragtime band”
that should be fun

exams are coming up
that should suck

calculus is so wonderful
i’m being sarcastic

nomes’s guide to calculus homework:
– do questions
– put a star beside questions you do wrong or don’t understand
– try to do the questions you got wrong at least two more times, if you still don’t get it right, keep the star there
– try to do the ones you don’t understand at least once more, if you still don’t get it right, keep the star there
– ask other smart people for help
– if they don’t get it either ask the teacher

that’s not even supposed to be funny

sanjeyan, shawn, abraham and i conducted an inpromptu social experiment today after school

we decided to see how many people would thank me if i held the door open for them

results? pretty pathetic:
27/50

that is, out of 50 people, only 27 people bothered to thank me for holding the door open for them
that’s 23 ingrates

mainly twas girls who said thank you
and all people above twenty said thank you
a lot of young grade nine pukes did not
one kid went through that door around three times and didn’t say thank you any of those times
if i ever see that kid again i might have to resort to violent behaviour…
maybe not

but if he finds a dead frog in his soup he’ll know who sent it (maybe his mom, maybe they like frog soup)

anyway

i blew my calculus test
