{"id":545,"date":"2005-02-16T01:14:11","date_gmt":"2005-02-16T05:14:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nomes.malcolm-x.org\/?p=545"},"modified":"2007-07-31T08:23:31","modified_gmt":"2007-07-31T12:23:31","slug":"humanitarian-to-a-nation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/nomes.malcolm-x.org\/?p=545","title":{"rendered":"humanitarian to a nation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saudiaramcoworld.com\/issue\/200406\/humanitarian.to.a.nation.htm\">story<\/a> i read really moved me, i&#8217;m amazed (thanks fahad)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.saudiaramcoworld.com\/issue\/200406\/humanitarian.to.a.nation.htm\">Humanitarian to a Nation<\/a><\/p>\n<p><i>Starting in 1951 with a tiny dispensary in Karachi\u00ef\u00bf\u00bds poor Mithadar neighborhood, Edhi has steadily built up a nationwide organization of ambulances, clinics, maternity homes, mental asylums, homes for the physically handicapped, blood banks, orphanages, adoption centers, mortuaries, shelters for runaway children and battered women, schools, nursing courses, soup kitchens and a 25-bed cancer hospital.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>it struck my as almost surreal that such a person could exist, that with the limited resources he has and the atmosphere in pakistan, he could do so much<\/p>\n<p>it makes me wonder if we, here in the west with so much more, are doing nearly enough (and no, we&#8217;re not &#8212; the fundamental problem is not that of wealth or resources but that of distribution, and in as far as that problem exists nothing even remotely near enough is being done)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>&#8220;My religion is humanitarianism\u00ef\u00bf\u00bd..
